Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), one of the world’s leading global media and entertainment companies, today detailed the potential ways in which its planned new studio project in southern Nevada could create higher-wage jobs across the state, accelerate Nevada’s economic diversification, provide educational and training opportunities for Nevadans, and return measurable value to the state’s economy. The plan is contingent upon the passage of a film tax credit expansion, known as the Lange bill.
WBD, in partnership with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the state of Nevada, plans to operate and fully occupy “Warner Bros. Studios Nevada,” and will make a long-term minimum investment of $8.5 billion in production spend. As an additional part of the plan, WBD will include a studio attraction similar to the ones they operate in Hollywood, London and Tokyo.
WBD’s economic study shows that the production credit program will result in $1.2 billion in on-going contributions to Nevada’s Gross State Product equaling $13.5 billion over 15 years.
Warner Bros. Studios Nevada will contribute significantly to Nevada’s ongoing economic diversification — adding a new film and TV industry hub where the national average salary is 35 percent higher than Nevada’s 2023 economy-wide average.
WBD’s plan includes a focus on creating new professional opportunities for residents of Nevada. Leveraging its more than 100 years of expertise in film and television production, WBD will partner with UNLV to provide training and resources to students, staff, and professionals in the industry, helping to develop the next generation of filmmakers, showrunners, producers, and technicians.
The plan includes the creation of the Nevada Media and Technology Lab, a 50,000 square foot facility dedicated to supporting training programs for all Nevada residents to learn specialized skills, upskill, and cross-train in the film and television industry for years to come.
“This is more than just a studio project for us — it’s a full-scale commitment to Nevada including film and TV production, tour attraction, screen tourism and education,” said Simon Robinson, Chief Operating Officer of Warner Bros. Studios. “We are excited to make southern Nevada our third global studio and to establish a lasting public-private partnership that benefits the state economy.”
Nevada State Senator Roberta Lange (D-LV), sponsor of the legislation, expressed confidence in the project’s potential to transform Nevada’s economic landscape. “Since pledging $8.5 billion to our state, Warner Bros. has thoroughly researched the long-term benefits for Nevada, and the anticipated ROI and job creation make this a private-public partnership opportunity we cannot afford to overlook.”
With construction slated to begin months after the bill’s enactment, Warner Bros. Studios Nevada promises to be a catalyst for growth, solidifying Nevada’s position as a global leader in film production while providing substantial returns to the Silver State’s economy.
Shortly after the Lange bill is enacted, WBD will start production in Nevada and has committed to $500 million in content spend over the initial three years of the film tax credit expansion.
Similarly, in 2025, WBD will launch its community engagement and talent development program, CREW HQ, which will provide production training for Nevadans of all backgrounds.
Additionally, $900 million of infrastructure will be invested, half spent on the construction of the soundstages and associated studio buildings and the other half devoted to construction of studio attraction, retail, hotel, the media and technology lab and other contingent facilities. Construction will take place over 36 months.
