SILVER STATE EQUALITY ON THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION STATEMENT
ON HEALTHCARE FOR TRANS YOUTH
LAS VEGAS, NEV (July 3, 2024) – Silver State Equality, Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights advocacy nonprofit, released the following statement from André C. Wade, State Director for Silver State Equality in response to the Biden administration’s comments on healthcare for transgender youth:
“We are disappointed and disheartened by the statement released by the Biden administration opposing the full continuum of care for transgender youth. This statement contradicts President Biden’s broad support and actions favoring transgender people, including transgender youth.
An overwhelming majority of medical experts, including every major medical association in the United States, representing over 1.3 million doctors, agree that transgender youth should have access to comprehensive healthcare.
Medical decisions for transgender youth belong between their family and their healthcare provider, free from government interference.
At a time when far-right extreme officials continue to push hateful anti-transgender legislation and rhetoric, the President needs to reaffirm his commitment to LGBTQ+ youth and their families. Silver State Equality will continue holding the Biden administration accountable for its commitment to protecting life-saving healthcare for transgender people.”
