News from A Safe Haven for Newborns

Our Family Continues to Grow -- 410

  • Don't Miss A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala, the Must-Attend Event of the Season

  • 12th Annual A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala -- October 19

  • We are Having a Silent Auction

This past weekend was very emotional and life-reaffirming for us at A Safe Haven for Newborns. We welcomed the 400th infant to be born in Florida and the 410th surrendered under the Safe Haven for Newborns program since it was started in 2001. The baby was safely surrendered in the arms of a trained health professional who knew how to receive the infant all the while respecting the mother's right to privacy.

Under Florida's Surrendered Infant Statute, a newborn 30 days or younger may be left with a staff member at a fire or EMS station or hospital without fear of prosecution and guaranteed anonymity; provided the child is not harmed.

Since its inception, A Safe Haven for Newborns has virtually eliminated infant abandonment in Florida with none reported from 2020 to 2022; and only three since then. Not only has the Safe Haven for Newborns program been successful in Florida, it has assisted other states and countries in establishing theirs. The program works.
