LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Here’s the tea: an exclusive Labubu pop-up event is coming to Las Vegas.
Mama Chai’s, a boba and tea shop in Las Vegas’s Chinatown, announced Tuesday it would be bringing the world of Labubus to life with a one-day-only tea party.
Labubus are collectible plush toy monsters, created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung in 2015, that have taken the world by storm since they were launched by Pop Mart in 2019.
The quirky character surged in popularity thanks to celebrity fans like Lisa from Blackpink and Tom Brady, who was spotted sporting Labubu on his jeans in June.
Steve Johnson, from One of Us Comics in Henderson, compared Labubu’s rise to fame to the 1980s craze surrounding Cabbage Patch Kids.
‘Labubu has inspired collector mania and in some cases, literal fights in stores,” Johnson told 8 News Now in June.
Now, the fluffy monsters are taking over a local tea hot spot on Saturday, Aug. 23, from noon to 6 p.m.
The experience invites collectors, fans, and foodies to indulge in limited-edition Labubu-themed donuts and a Mama Chai’s Labubu drink created just for the event. Guests will also get exclusive access to limited-run Labubus and authentic Pop Mart merchandise, the shop said in a release.
While the event is free, space is limited and only 50 guests will be admitted each hour. Those who wish to attend can make a reservation at this link. Each attendee will reserve a timed block in advance and walk-ins will not be accepted.
Mama Chai’s is located at 4240 Spring Mountain Road and is open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight.
