Largest Federal Employee Union Announces Election Results

Delegates attending the American Federation of Government Employees’ national convention elect officers for next three years

LAS VEGAS – Delegates to the American Federation of Government Employees’ 43rd National Convention today reelected Everett Kelley as the union’s national president.

Delegates also reelected Eric Bunn Sr. as national secretary-treasurer and elected Kendrick Roberson to serve as AFGE’s national vice president for women and fair practices.

Kelley has served as AFGE national president since February 2020 and has been an AFGE member since 1981. Under his leadership, AFGE has seen record organizing growth, has secured new contracts strengthening workers’ protections and rights on the job, and has achieved significant policy and legislative victories including the largest federal employee raise in 40 years.

“I want to thank the AFGE delegates who put their trust in me to continue leading this great union for another term,” Kelley said. “The theme of our convention is ‘Together We Rise, United We Triumph,’ and I look forward to working with all of our members to continue building on our tremendous successes in the months and years to come.”

Kelley won the top office with nearly 59% of the vote.

In the race for national secretary-treasurer, Bunn received nearly 68% of the vote. Bunn has served as AFGE’s national secretary-treasurer since April 2020 and previously served three consecutive terms as national vice president of District 14.

In the race for national vice president for women and fair practices, Roberson received nearly 54% of the final vote. Roberson has been a member of AFGE Local 2429 since 2016 and was elected chair of the AFGE Y.O.U.N.G. National Committee in 2020.

More than 1,300 delegates are attending the convention, which will conclude on Friday, serving the interest of more than 750,000 federal and D.C. government employees represented by AFGE.
