Community Invited To Learn About The Project And Provide Feedback
The city of Las Vegas is hosting a neighborhood meeting about the Stewart Avenue Complete Streets Project, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
The community is invited to attend to learn and provide feedback about the project, which will include an improved complete street designed to be safe and attractive for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The project encompasses the segment of Stewart from Sixth Street to Nellis Boulevard. Spanish interpreters will be available on site and all ages are welcome.
Project goals include improving safety, better accommodating walking, biking and transit riders, providing additional shade and completing flood control improvements. Additional goals include providing accessible travel options for those with limited transportation means and offering improved economic opportunities. Proposed improvements could include protected bike lanes to separate cyclists from vehicles to increase safety, along with wider sidewalks, trees and enhanced lighting.
The city, in cooperation with the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, is preparing the design and environmental studies for this segment of Stewart.
The city has been awarded nearly $24 million in federal grant funds for the project and must follow the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. The NEPA process includes an environmental study to minimize impacts on the community.
Public input is a key consideration in NEPA studies. For more information about the study, please visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/StewartProject.
