LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A popular swap meet that temporarily closed due to fear of ICE raids will reopen this weekend after more than a month.
Broadacres Marketplace, located at 2930 North Las Vegas Boulevard, will officially reopen on Friday, August 1, at 4 p.m. and resume its normal weekend schedule.
The marketplace temporarily closed on June 21, citing ongoing ICE raids across the country as the reason.
“With fear and uncertainty at its highest level ever among the immigrant community in Las Vegas; We have decided to temporarily close Broadacres Marketplace out of an abundance of caution and concern for our community,” the marketplace’s management team said on social media.
“People are scared, and they don’t want to get caught by ICE. Everything is collapsing,” local vendor, Marco Falcon, told 8 News Now in June.
A staple within North Las Vegas for almost 50 years, Broadacres Marketplace has been a hub for Latino workers and their families for decades.
“As one of the region’s most cherished and dynamic open-air markets, Broadacres has long served as a cornerstone of the local economy and a hub for commerce, culture, and community,” a spokesperson said in a release.
The opening weekend will feature family-friendly activities, including kids’ attractions and a “festive” food fair across the many restaurants and vendors within the marketplace.
“The reopening marks an important moment of continuity for the thousands of families, vendors, and visitors who rely on and support this beloved marketplace,” the release said.
Broadacres is open Friday nights from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
