Aldi bets on Sin City

The discounter opened its first two stores in the Las Vegas metropolitan area as part of efforts to strengthen its footprint in the West.

Aldi said these new and planned Las Vegas area stores are part of its five-year U.S. growth strategy to open more than 225 new locations in 2025 as well as build on its previously announced goal to add 800 stores by the end of 2028.

“With 25 percent of U.S. households and counting trusting our products and low prices, we’re growing rapidly from coast-to-coast,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a statement. “Opening stores in Las Vegas gives us the opportunity for continued growth in this exciting market and allows us to bring an affordable and fun grocery experience to shoppers nationwide.”

The newly opened Aldi stores are located at 621 Marks St. in Henderson, Nevada, and 2106 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Aldi said it debuted the stores “in true Las Vegas style” by giving customers commemorative quarter-sized Aldi poker chips to access the grocer’s shopping carts.

At the Henderson store, shoppers had the chance to win access to the one-day-only “High Savers Room,” which provided samples of private label items, exclusive branded merchandise and displays of award-winning products.

As part of the opening celebration, Aldi teamed up with DoorDash to announce the new stores through a custom activation that will last through April 30 at the Sphere, a globe-shaped music and entertainment arena with exterior LED displays.

The third store is slated to open at 7150 S. Rainbow Blvd. in Las Vegas on May 15. Aldi did not share the location for the fourth store slated in the metropolitan area.

Aldi’s ongoing rapid expansion across the U.S. comes as customers look for ways to stretch their dollars.

At the end of last year, Aldi announced plans to expand its U.S. headquarters.

Earlier this year, Aldi sold Southeastern Grocers and 170 stores under the company to a consortium of private investors, and the discounter said it planned to convert 220 previously acquired Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores into Aldi locations.
