Kelly Clarkson abruptly postpones Vegas residency, news of ex-husband’s death follows

USA TODAY

On Aug. 6, Kelly Clarkson announced she was pausing part of her Las Vegas residency because her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock was ill and she needed to be with their children.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote, referencing Blackstock.

Less than 24 hours later, on Aug. 7, Blackstock's family announced that he died after a three-year battle with cancer.

The statement said Blackstock, 48, "passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family."

Clarkson's remaining concerts this month were set for Aug. 8-9 and 15-16. Her next round of shows are scheduled for Nov. 7-8 and 14-15.

According to Caesars Colosseum, home to the "Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions" residency, fans impacted by the cancellations can hold on to their tickets for Clarkson's 2026 shows. There is a 30-day window for those who prefer a refund.

Clarkson has dates six dates scheduled for July and August 2026.

USA TODAY has reached out to Clarkson's representative for more information.

Clarkson shares daughter River Rose, 11 − who recently joined her mom onstage in Vegas − and son Remy Alexander, 9, with Blackstock. The couple divorced in March 2022 after nearly seven years of marriage.

This is the second postponement of Clarkson’s latest Vegas residency. Her opening show July 4 was canceled hours before show time after the “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker strained her voice during rigorous rehearsals.

"We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans," she said in her statement at the time. “I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening.”

Clarkson's mix of natural humor, a homey stage and a set list that showcases her powerhouse vocals on hits including “Heartbeat Song” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” has captivated fans during her sold-out shows at the 4,100-capacity venue.
