Don't Miss A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala, the Must-Attend Event of the Season

We are weeks away from our annual celebration of life gala, A Wonderland in Safe Haven, on Saturday, October 19, at the InterContinental Miami Hotel. This will be our 12th Gala and there is so much to be grateful for, to honor, and celebrate. Our first Safe Haven “babies” Gloria Hope, Kristopher, and Milagros have grown up in front of our eyes. In a heartbeat, they went from being defenseless infants to becoming young, focused adults striving towards their dreams. These young people have been given a chance and they are not about to let it pass. They are stepping up and reaching for their dreams and making the best of what life has presented to them; and they are giving back.

As in previous years, Gloria Hope will grace us with her voice and sing our national anthem; and Lydia “Milagros” will share her thoughts. She is very proud that she recently received her driver’s license, an amazing young lady. On the night of the event, make sure to stop by the silent auction section and see the amazing art pieces Lydia created just for the event. They can be yours.

Our annual gala, A Wonderland in Safe Haven, holds a very special place in my heart. It gives us a chance to catch-up with our Safe Haven families and their children. It also gives us an opportunity to gather with old friends and make new ones, reflect, and share thoughts and ideas. And, it gives us an opportunity to raise funds that are vital to operating the programs offered. Through the years, we have amassed a list of agencies across the state of Florida that we can refer the teens or women in crisis to for the help they need. Some of the services offered are prenatal care, counseling, women’s shelters, maternity homes, postpartum depression, baby necessities, abuse and suicide issues, adoption and confidentially placing the infant at a safe haven location. All these services are confidential and offered at no cost to the expectant mother, no questions asked and no judgment. Or, maybe just one question — How can we help, you are not alone?

A Safe Haven for Newborns has served as the Florida Safe Haven Program since 2001, providing direct help to over 6,000 teens and women and saving over 400 newborns from abandonment. A key component to the success of the program is the 24/7 multilingual Helpline and the Safe Haven signs displayed at every 24/7 staffed Fire, EMS station and Hospital across Florida where the mother can confidentially surrender her infant in the arms of a trained healthcare professional. This unique partnership, extending over 23 years, reaches Fire, EMS, Hospitals, Department of Children and Families, Law Enforcement, Social Services and many other agencies.

As of this writing, 410 newborns have been given the gift of a loving family; 400 in Florida, nine in other states and one in Honduras. Will you help us continue our mission to end infant abandonment? Please join us on Saturday, October 19, at 7 PM at the Intercontinental Miami Hotel. Tickets are available for purchase through our website as well as sponsorship opportunities.

If you are not able to attend the gala, you can still help us in our mission to raise the monies to fund the referral services by making a donation on our website; it will take you to the donation page. Or, by texting SAFEHAVEN to 44321 and making your donation.

Warmest regards,

Nick
